Bill Janes
Role:Executive Vice President/Webmaster
Organization:191st AHC Association
Location:Working virtually on the web
Website:www.191ahc.org
Mission:Dedicated to the Members of the 191st Assault Helicopter Company in Vietnam – those who survived and especially those that perished. We all gave something, but some gave everything.
The 191st Assault Helicopter Company arrived in Vietnam on 24 May 1967 where it was assigned to the 214th Combat Aviation Battalion. Nicknamed “Boomerangs and Bounty Hunters” (because Boomerangs come back), the 191st Assault Helicopter Company provided the majority of airmobile assets conducting assaults, re-supply, and medical evacuation missions into numerous hot landing zones.
Bill Janes returned home, though several of his friends did not and he has worked tirelessly to honor those they left behind. Bill created a website and used the internet to track down survivors of the 191st AHC group. He serves as Executive Vice President of the 191st AHC Association, and no vet is ever ignored by him. Bill has spent thousands of hours with the 191st website, collecting poem, stories, “then and now” photos, and more serving the families of those lost in Vietnam. No obstacle has proved to be beyond him. His efforts have not gone without notice from his fellow soldiers. He knows the word quit, but he doesn't think it applies to him.
